If you are carry a small pannier or one of the giant loop type you MIGHT be able to get away with just a heat shield, but most likely not. If you want low profile and light weight got with a small bolt on side rack to space the bag off the panels/muffler. It may be loose or simply bent from some debris in the road. Mine was bent by some cardboard I ran over. I simply bent it back a bit so ut did not contact anything and csuse a rattle. Conversely one of the attachment points may have come loose.Bottom line is you need a rack. If you are carry a small pannier or one of the giant loop type you MIGHT be able to get away with just a heat shield, but most likely not. If you want low profile and light weight got with a small bolt on side rack to space the bag off the panels/muffler.
